Arsenal are reportedly set to discuss an improved contract with Jorginho

The midfielder's contract expires in the summer and the club have the option to extend it under its current terms.

However, the Gunners are reportedly willing to reward him with a better package as opposed to simply triggering an extension, as per the Evening Standard

Jorginho is having a strong season and has gelled well with Declan Rice after he joined in the summer.

He impressed in the 4-1 win over Newcastle, dinking a gorgeous chip over to Gabriel Martinelli, who set up Kai Havertz for their second goal.

It marks a huge improvement on his struggles earlier in the season, when his own fans cruelly branded him a ‘total liability’ and a ‘pensioner’ after he lost the ball to James Maddison of Tottenham.

Maddison went on to set up Son Heung-min in a 2-2 draw and it was seen as a potentially pivotal moment in the race for the title and top four.

His Champions League win with Chelsea in 2020/21 is a valuable experience that he brings to a young group in another title run-in.

He joined Arsenal in January last year and played a strong part in their ill-fated push for a first Premier League crown since 2004.

'Everyone is happy but now is the moment to stay focused and push even more, to go with the good momentum and try to win another game,' he told Arsenal's website earlier this month.

'It’s important to keep cool heads in the title race, not get carried away and keep feet on the ground, and that’s exactly how the team are approaching it.

'I think we need to focus, as I always said, game by game.

'If we want to stay in the race, we need to focus on each game and give everything we can in every single game.'
