  • Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title despite a 2-1 win over Everton

Arsenal narrowly missed out on the Premier League title despite a 2-1 victory against Everton on the final day of the season.

The Gunners headed into the clash against Sean Dyche's side needing to win, while relying on Man City to draw or lose in order to lift the trophy for the first time since 2004.

After a nervy start, Arsenal went behind when Idrissa Gana Gueye's free kick was deflected past David Raya by Declan Rice.

Takehiro Tomiyasu was the unlikely source of the equaliser, and after significant second half pressure, Kai Havertz scored a late winner. However, with City's victory over West Ham, it wasn't enough as the Gunners finished second in the Premier League.

Mail Sport's ISAAN KHAN was at the Emirates and has rated Arsenal's players below...

It was a tough end for the Gunners, who finished second, yet it has still been a fantastic season

ARSENAL (4-3-3):

DAVID RAYA: 6

A quiet day in a goal for the Spaniard, having only faced two shots on target. Pulled off a great diving catch from Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strike after 63 minutes.

BEN WHITE: 6

Looked tired. If he was, you can’t blame him. He has made 51 appearances and started 35 league matches. Not his typical self.

WILLIAM SALIBA: 6.5

He has played every single minute of Arsenal’s 38 league matches. A colossus.

GABRIEL: 6

Tussled well with Calvert-Lewin. Departed on the hour mark holding his shoulder. Mikel Arteta will hope it’s not a serious injury.

TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU: 8

Struck a well-taken goal and was solid in shutting down attacks forward.

But Ben White struggled on the day and in truth the versatile defender looked extremely tired

MARTIN ODEGAARD: 6.5

Good cross to provide Tomiyasu’s goal. Found himself in a few good shooting positions, taking too long to shoot at times.

THOMAS PARTEY: 5.5

Off the boil. Wasn’t able to make an impact on the game.

DECLAN RICE: 6

Found himself in the right place at the right time. An Everton free-kick went in off him but he couldn’t do anything about that.

LEANDRO TROSSARD: 6

Didn’t find goal opportunities of note. Not the impact he has had in the last two months.

KAI HAVERTZ: 6

Good in the link up play. Hesitant in front of goal.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI: 7

Grew into the match. Showed bursts of pace and silky dribbling skills but couldn’t marry it with end product.

Substitutions -

GABRIEL JESUS: N/A

EMILE SMITH ROWE: 6.5

Made things happen when he came on. A real attacking threat.

JURRIEN TIMBER: 6

A very popular introduction. Showed sparks of the talent he brings to this team.

OLEKSANDR ZINCHENKO: 6

Added an attacking bite to the left flank.

Manager- MIKEL ARTETA: 6

Gave Jurrien Timber some well-earned minutes and got the victory.

Referee- MICHAEL OLIVER: 6

Made the right decision on Arsenal’s goal.
