Ronald Koeman may well be walking out of Barcelona before too much longer has passed, but the Dutchman has done something in his time at the club that is sure to leave a mark.
Koeman has, partly out of necessity, given minutes to a number of young players at the club, and some of those have gone on to establish themselves as important to Barcelona, but also at international level as well.
Much like Luis Enrique, Koeman isn't concerned by the age of his players. He very much signs up to the school of thought that says 'if you're good enough, you're old enough', and he has proven that this season with Gavi.
Following in Pedri's footsteps from last season, Gavi has stepped up to the first team and shone. Despite having only played fewer than 300 minutes, he played a starring role for Spain as they beat Italy away in the Nations League semi-final on Wednesday, but he's not alone.
Mingueza and Pedri
Oscar Mingueza and Pedri were the breakout starlets last season. The Canary Islander arrived at Barcelona having already shown his ability with Las Palmas, but nobody knew if he'd work with the first team immediately or start off with Barcelona B.
But Philippe Coutinho's injury opened the door for Pedri, and Koeman was happy to let him in. Luis Enrique did similarly, trusting Pedri to join the Spain squad, despite some questioning the decision.
Mingueza also made the step up, and his versatility impressed enough to earn an international call-up as well, debuting against Lithuania on June 8.
Ilaix and Araujo
Ilaix Moriba and Ronald Araujo also made the jump last term. The Uruguayan had already played before Koeman's arrival, but he improved a lot afterwards becoming the star in Barcelona's defence.
Ilaix, for his part, has since left the club due to a dispute with the board over his contract.
