Bayern Munich have requested that their Bundesliga fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday be postponed due to the COVID-19 cases in their squad.
The Bavarians have had eight first-team players test positive, in addition to having other players injured or at the Africa Cup of Nations. Bundesliga rules allow a postponement request to be made if a team has fewer than 16 players available, including at least one goalkeeper.
Bayern have yet to officially confirm they have made such a request, and Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl believes the game will go ahead.
"Bayern would like to postpone the game, but that is a matter for the Bundesliga to decide," Eberl said at his press conference on Wednesday.
"We're preparing ourselves as normal. Nevertheless, both Bayern and ourselves have a number of players missing.
"We believe the game will be played on Friday."
Bayern's positive cases are: Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez, Dayot Upamecano, Tanguy Nianzou, Omar Richards, Corentin Tolisso, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.
Meanwhile, Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting and Bouna Sarr are with their national sides ahead of the African Cup of Nations tournament, while Josip Stasinic and Leon Goretzka have been struggling with injury. Nilkas Sule was also absent from training on Wednesday but no reason was given in his case.
Bayern are nine points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, but were knocked out the DFB-Pokal by Gladbach in a 5-0 thrashing back in October.
