Two of the world's finest strikers, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland, are set to face each other in the DFL-Supercup between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday at the Westfalenstadion.
The Norway international joined Dortmund in January 2020 and made an immediate impact, as he scored 41 goals in 41 games across all competitions in 2020/21. Meanwhile, Lewandowski shined last season when he was handed his first European Golden Boot award after bettering Gerd Muller's record of 40 goals in one campaign with his 41 Bundesliga goals last term.
The experienced striker has been compared and contrasted to Haaland since the latter moved to Germany, but who is the forward you would rather have right now?
No victories against Bayern
Haaland has faced Lewandowski's side four times since joining Dortmund, but he has failed to even grab a draw against the Bavarians, who have won all four duels.
Bayern came out victorious in Haaland's first appearance in a derby back in May 2020, when he couldn't find the back of net.
However, the Norwegian striker managed to net in all the three next duels. He mustered four goals and one assist, but they weren't enough to lead Dortmund to a triumph over their rivals.
Ruthless against his former club
Following his departure from Dortmund to join Bayern back in 2014, Lewandowski has become a club legend in Munich, where he has celebrated seven consecutive Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy.
The Polish striker has faced his former team 23 times since moving to Bavaria and led his current side to 16 victories, with one game ending in a draw and Dortmund winning six times. In those 23 games, Lewandowski was involved in 25 goals, scoring 22 of them and producing three assists.
Ahead of Tuesday's derby, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann entered into the debate on whether Lewandowski and Haaland have similar styles of play and broke down the Polish forward's virtues.
"I think Lewandowski has shown for several years the high level at which he is capable of playing," said Nagelsmann.
"He is a world-class player. That is a very big difference.
"Erling [Haaland] hasn't been in the Bundesliga that long, but his numbers are very good.
"Even so, it is remarkable to have so much success and to score so many goals over several years in different clubs and to help the club, in Lewandowski's case.
"Robert is a bit older than Erling, so he has more experience.
"What they have in common is that both are very dangerous in front of goal and can finish with any part of the body.
"Lewandowski is very good in the air and can kick [the ball] with both feet and I think so can Erling.
"There are many similarities, but they are still different players.
"Lewandowski is a prominent striker between the lines, participating in combinations and offering himself to teammates. It is difficult to mark him. I am very happy to have Lewandowski."
