Luka Modric spoke on behalf of the Real Madrid squad ahead of the second leg of the semi-final against Manchester City, as they look to overturn a first-leg 4-3 defeat when the two teams meet at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
When asked what he admires most about Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti, Modric focused on his general attitude.
"To choose just one is difficult, but I would say the way he conducts himself. He has come back in a very natural way; he has put a lot of faith in the team and that has meant a lot to us," Modric explained.
"For me he is one of the greatest coaches in the history of the sport and we were all happy when he came back. We had a great time with him in his first period and we won big trophies. Now we want to win big things with him again."
Casemiro missed the first leg with a knock, but he is expected to start against City on Wednesday after featuring against Espanyol last weekend.
"Without a doubt his return means a lot to us, he is a very important part of our game," Modric noted.
"I'm sure he's going to help us tomorrow to correct the mistakes we made; he's always there to help. That's why we're very happy to see him back."
Luck in the Champions League
When asked whether Real Madrid need luck to get to the Champions League final, Modric was clear.
"We don't say anything to people who think like that, let them carry on like that. To be here and win I don't know how many Champions League trophies, you can't just rely on luck. It's a bit unfair," he stated.
"It makes us laugh a bit, although everyone can say what they want. We are focused on what we do and we don't care what people say from outside.
"To reach these heights year after year, beating big rivals and winning trophies, you have to have more than luck: character, personality, faith... This is what makes us win."
Rodrygo Goes has been in excellent form of late, which means Ancelotti will have a tough decision when it comes to choosing who will start between the Brazilian and Fede Valverde
"He is a very good player, he's special. We have a very good relationship," Modric declared.
"He already said that we are father and son, because his father is the same age as me. That's why I say he has to listen to me.
"He's very good, he's doing well, I'm very happy for him. He's humble, he has to stay that way. It's better to ask him how I've helped him".
Carlo Ancelotti's press conference
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti also faced the media ahead of the match against Manchester City.
He was clear about the fact that his side will have to take some risks if they are to reach the Champions League final this season.
"If we set up a low block, we won't get to take 99 shots. If we get into their box, we'll get 99 shots," Ancelotti said.
"Sometimes you have to take risks, that's why in those games you can see that we've scored a lot of goals. Sometimes you have to take a risk and we have the quality to do that."
In terms of what Real Madrid need to complete the comeback, Ancelotti stressed the importance of personality.
"Two teams of great quality are going to face each other, different both individually and collectively," he noted.
"If you reach the semi-final, the final or win the Champions League, it's not only because of your heart, although personality is an important part of it because it allows you to show the quality you have.
"There are many important aspects: individual quality, collective commitment... you need everything, just one part is not enough in the Champions League."
