Thomas Tuchel admits Chelsea are 'not ready yet' for the new season after their 'TIRING and EXHAUSTING' pre-season tour of the US... despite finishing their preparations with back-to-back wins against Udinese in Italy

  • Thomas Tuchel has again admitted that Chelsea are not ready for the new season
  • He feels their 'exhausting' pre-season tour of USA has caused a lack of sharpness
  • Chelsea finished pre-season with successive wins against Udinese last weekend
  • But it seems Tuchel is still feeling the hangover from their 4-0 defeat by Arsenal

Thomas Tuchel admitted that Chelsea are unprepared ahead of the new campaign, following their 'tiring' and 'exhausting' pre-season tour of America.

The Blues completed their fortnight-long trip to the US last week and went on to earn two victories in Italy against Udinese at the weekend, winning 3-1 on Friday and 2-0 on Saturday.

But it seems the German boss has yet to forget Chelsea's turbulent tour stateside - his team endured a 5-3 defeat on penalties to Charlotte and a 4-0 thrashing by Arsenal after only narrowly winning the first match 2-1 against Club America.

And now, Tuchel is concerned that the 'tiring' and 'exhausting' pre-season has left Chelsea unprepared ahead of their opening match against Everton on Saturday.

'It was a pretty long pre-season,' the Blues boss admitted.

'Tiring and exhausting to be in the US for so long, and having to travel again today under the circumstances is not so easy, pretty demanding.

'After this weekend we prepare for nothing else other than Everton. The season is right in front of the door. There is a lot of positive stuff but we need to improve.

'We are not ready yet. We don't have to be ready yet. We have another week and then it is time to be on the best level. It is always nice when the season arrives.

'We will have this week There is still some way to go.'

Whilst Tuchel has worked to embed new signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly into his formation and system, the Stamford Bridge chiefs have struggled to finalise deals for key targets.

Despite having offers accepted for both Sevilla's Jules Kounde and Leeds' Raphinha, the pair ultimately snubbed Chelsea in favour of Barcelona at the final hurdle.

Sterling grabbed his first goal in a Blues shirt during the 3-1 win to Udinese, whilst Koulibaly impressed the manager with a 70-minute appearance in defence.

Tuchel said: '[Sterling] had chances, he was heavily involved in other chances. It was a good performance.

'[Koulibaly] is a very, very good signing and a strong personality and player - happy he could play and he is getting fitter and fitter. It is very important for us for the start of the season.'
