Manchester United have reached an agreement with Juventus for the signing of Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, the Premier League side confirmed on Friday.
Ronaldo, 36, told Juve he wanted to leave the club and Manchester City had emerged as the favourites to sign the former Real Madrid man.
However, United emerged at the eleventh hour to beat their rivals to the signature of the player.
"Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical," the club said.
"Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.
"In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.
"Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester."
Ronaldo first joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 but left for Madrid in 2009 and went on to join Juve almost a decade later.
He scored 450 goals in 438 games while in Madrid and another 101 goals in 134 game for Juve.
