Kane on target as Tottenham down Brighton

Antonio Conte and Tottenham can continue to have an outside chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League after their 2-0 Premier League win away at Brighton on Wednesday.

The result leaves Spurs still three points off fourth-placed Arsenal in seventh, though they have played a game more than the Gunners and one fewer than Manchester United and West Ham, who occupy fifth and sixth respectively.

Having caused controversy by looking to get under Harry Maguire's skin over the weekend, Cristian Romero put Tottenham ahead in the first half in rather fortuitous fashion.

A smart move led to Dejan Kulusevski being picked out. The Swede attempted a first-time shot which took a fierce deflection off his fellow ex-Atalanta man and the ball went past Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for the opener.

Brighton sought a way back into the game and Kulusevski passed up a good chance to extend Spurs' lead before the break.

Harry Kane did then give Conte's men a two-goal cushion just before the hour mark, and another ex-Serie A man was responsible for teeing him up. Rodrigo Bentancur, on the night that former side Juventus limply crashed out of the Champions League, put a ball through for the England captain. Kane got on the end of it and finished past Sanchez.
