Everton earned a pivotal 1-0 win against Chelsea to keep their hopes of surviving well and truly alive amid an electric Premier League atmosphere at Goodison Park.

A scrappy game, with no clear-cut chances for either side in the first half, opened up at the start of the second half when a terrible mistake from Cesar Azpilicueta gave Richarlison an opportunity.

Azpilicueta was disposed by the Brazilian on the edge of the box, allowing Demarai Gray to prod the ball forward to Richarlison who slotted the ball into the far corner.

Vitaliy Mykolenko nearly doubled Everton's lead a few minutes later, when he was slipped in by Abdoulaye Doucoure, but he lashed the ball over despite having time and space.

Hero Pickford

Jordan Pickford had a brilliant game, stopping Chelsea from finding the back of the net with a series of excellent saves.

First, the England goalkeeper stopped Azpilicueta from redeeming himself when the Mason Mount's low strike rebounded off the post towards the Chelsea captain who's shot was stopped by a quick-reacting Pickford.

Pickford then saves another shot to deny Antonio Rudiger moments later to the delight of the Goodison crowd.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek came close to scoring with 10 minutes to go, only for Pickford to parry the shot away, a move he repeated again when Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic attempted to get past the Everton keeper.

Pickford's outstanding performance and Richarlison's goal puts Everton just two points behind Leeds, with a game in hand.

Everton have another tricky test when they face Leicester City next Sunday, whilst Chelsea play Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
