The deal could have implications for Barça, who want to sign Alonso & Azpilicueta

Chelsea have confirmed that a deal has been agreed for Todd Boehly to take over the club, with the sale expected to be completed later this month.

The Premier League side was made available earlier this year when UK government sanctions forced previous owner Roman Abramovich to put the club on the market. Abramovich was sanctioned following Russia's invasion in Ukraine.

There were several bidders, with Boehly, who owns 20% of the Los Angeles Dodgers and is also a part owner of the Los Angeles Sparks, prevailing on Friday.

Aside from his investment in sport, Boehly is an American businessman and investor. He is the co-founder of Eldridge Industries and is the interim CEO of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club," a statement read from the Premier League club.

"Of the total investment being made, £2.5bn will be applied to purchase the shares in the Club and such proceeds will be deposited into a frozen UK bank account with the intention to donate 100% to charitable causes as confirmed by Roman Abramovich. UK Government approval will be required for the proceeds to be transferred from the frozen UK bank account.

"In addition, the proposed new owners will commit £1.75bn in further investment for the benefit of the Club. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation.

"The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time."

The news will be of interest to Barcelona. After agreeing to sign Andrea Christensen on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer, they are also keen on fellow Chelsea defenders Cesar Azplicueta and Marcos Alonso.

With a new owner now in place, Barça can hold talks about potential deals for the Spain internationals.
