Manchester United have insisted they have no issues with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford before the end of their 1-1 friendly against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. 

The wantaway Portuguese star played the first 45 minutes of the game but was the only player to be substituted off by manager Erik ten Hag at halftime.

It came amid uncertainty over his Old Trafford future with Ronaldo wanting out of the club as United have no Champions League football this season.

As reported by Sky Sports via the Mirror, United initially refused to comment on Sunday but they have now clarified the club has no issue with Ronaldo leaving early as he was one of a number of players to do the same. 

The 37-year-old was replaced at the break by Amad Diallo, who gave United the lead with a close-range rebound in the 48th minute. 

But Rayo Vallecano drew level through Alvaro Garcia Rivera's finish nine minutes later. 

Ten Hag has been left satisfied with what he saw from his team during pre-season as he insisted his team is ready for Sunday's Premier League opener against Brighton.

'Overall, definitely [happy with pre-season], I think we make a good pre-season and we make good progress. We are ready for the season, but I know there is still a lot of room for improvement and we have to improve,' Ten Hag said.

'That is also a process that continues in the season, but for next week it's about the result as well. It [team selection] was a mixture of experience and youth, some guys met each other for the first time today, so what can you expect?

'You saw the attitude was great, they fought and worked for each other and it was positive. We created a lot of chances, okay, we also conceded chances, but I think we have to be satisfied with the performance.'
