'It smashed into a million pieces!' The Chase's Shaun Wallace 'is devastated as his treasured 2004 Mastermind trophy is broken after being dropped by a student'

The Chase's Shaun Wallace was left devastated after smashing the glass trophy he won on Mastermind in 2004.

Quiz show extraordinaire Shaun, 61, nicknamed The Dark Destroyer, was handed the prize after expertly answering questions on his specialist subject FA Cup Finals.

He has since been taking it with him to schools around the country when he does talks to show to pupils but was saddened when smashed to the ground during one of his outings to an educational institution.

A source told The Sun: 'Shaun is super proud of his win on Mastermind and thought it was a great prop to show the kids during his talk.

'He'd done it loads of times with no issues but things went horribly wrong on one visit.

'The glass trophy was dropped and smashed into a million pieces. It was a nightmare. As you can imagine, Shaun is gutted.'

Sean was quick to contact BBC bosses to see if he could get a replacement trophy but they told him they were no longer made.

Fortunately, the kind hearted producers tracked down the original maker and asked them to make an identical version.

While he is delighted to have a keepsake that looks the same, it does not have the same sentimental value, so Sean is hoping to appear on The Repair Shop to see if the show's experts can fix together the broken pieces he managed to save.

It comes as Shaun's co-star on Beat The Chasers, Issa Schultz, revealed he didn't know who Holly Willoughby was during an awkward exchange on Wednesday's This Morning.

The Australian 'supernerd' admitted he didn't recognise the well known presenter when she came up in a question on the ITV show.

Issa, who has replaced Anne Hegerty this series of The Chase spin-off, was tripped up by the English question during his first day in the job.

When asked about the blunder during his interview, he told Holly and her co-host Phillip Schofield: 'Guilty as charged! It was the first day they asked who replaced Fern Britton on This Morning..

'Jenny was straight in with it, at the time they were just two names to me - I apologise Holly!'

Issa joins chasers Shaun, Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha, Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis, Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan and Mark 'The Beast' Labbett on the panel this year.

Issa is no stranger to The Chase, as he's been a regular on the Australian series since its launch in 2015, where he is nicknamed The Supernerd.
