Alisson's understudy Caoimhin Kelleher reveals he will have talks with Liverpool about his future when he returns from international duty... as he admits he's 'not sure' whether he'll stay
- Liverpool goalkeeper reveals that he will discuss his playing time with his club
- But talks will have to wait until he returns from international duty with Ireland
- Kelleher joined the club in 2015 but only featured in eight games last season
- Manager Jurgen Klopp previously described him as 'the best No 2 in the world'
Though Kelleher has forced his way into a starting spot for his country, playing the full 90 minutes of their disappointing loss away to Armenia, he only featured eight times for Liverpool last season.
And at a Republic of Ireland press conference on Monday he revealed that he will have talks with his club once he returns from international duty.
Caoimhin Keller has only appeared in 17 Liverpool games in three years with the senior team
'I'm not sure on what's happening yet. I'm still finishing this season and then we will have conversations after that to see what happens,' he said.
'Obviously, I need to play these few games and see what happens with these and maybe decide after that.'
Despite only playing eight games last season he cemented his place as Jurgen Klopp's preferred choice between the sticks in the Carabao Cup.
Despite struggling with his club Kelleher debuted for Ireland in June 2021 and has four caps
Keller went on to score the winning penalty in a dramatic Carabao Cup final penalty shootout as Liverpool won the first of their domestic double this season.
And the German manager was quick to pile on the praise for the Irish goalkeeper, 23, naming him the best No 2 in the world.
However it is unlikely that he will be challenging Alisson for the No 1 spot any time soon, with the Brazilian international consistently ranked among the best in the world in his position.
After success at Wembley in February, Klopp said: 'I'm not 100 per cent sure I have the full story of the whole game but I can remember at least two incredible saves – probably there were more.
'So, he proved that the decision to line him up was absolutely right.
'Then in a very spectacular penalty shootout, he showed the whole range of his skillset.
'First and foremost, he's a goalkeeper but he finished one off with his really skilled feet. Top-class.
'To be 100 per cent honest, for me Caoimhin Kelleher is the best No 2 in the world as well, especially for the way we play.'
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp called Kelleher the 'best No 2 in the world' after the Carabao Cup final
