Jurgen Klopp has revealed the one regret that he has from his final season as Liverpool manager.

Matters haven't gone entirely to plan for Liverpool this campaign as although they won the Carabao Cup it looks as if they will miss out on the Premier League title.

Klopp's side also suffered frustration in the Champions League and the FA Cup as they were knocked out in the quarter-finals of both competitions.

There are two games remaining for Klopp as Liverpool manager - away to Aston Villa on Monday and then a home game against Wolves on May 19.

Liverpool have already lined up their replacement for Klopp, with Feyenoord boss Arne Slot poised to take charge.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Aston Villa, Klopp revealed that he wished that he gave Harvey Elliott more opportunities to play.

Klopp said: 'It's not that I go back and think 'OK, what did we all do wrong?'

'But if I regret one thing a little bit it's that Harvey didn't play often enough maybe.'

Elliott has made 32 appearances in the Premier League this season, but just nine of them have come as a starter.

Last weekend Elliott started in Liverpool's 4-2 win against Tottenham and produced a fine performance as he scored a superb goal and also provided an assist.

Klopp said: 'Because in a very important, intense period – January, a lot of injuries – he played really good. He was probably our best player, right wing, right midfield, all these kinds of things.

'Everybody came back and he had minutes here, minutes there and he didn't start anymore, came on, big impact.

'But it's really nice that he could show that (against Tottenham).'

At the age of 21, Elliott still has plenty of time to fully establish himself in the Liverpool starting lineup and he will be aiming to be a key player next season.

In total Elliott has made 117 appearances and has scored ten goals for Liverpool since he joined the club from Fulham in 2019.
