Phil Foden has been forced to miss Manchester City's crucial clash with Nottingham Forest due to illness.

Foden has been a central figure for the reigning champions this season, scoring 16 goals and providing seven assists in the league this season.

The England international scored twice earlier this week against Brighton to continue his sparkling form, which has made him the leading contender to be named player of the year.

Foden was joined on the sidelines by defender Ruben Dias, who has also been ruled out through illness.

Dias had been on the bench against Brighton in midweek.

Pep Guardiola opted to make two changes amid Foden's absence, with Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku named in the starting line-up, with Mateo Kovacic dropping to the bench.

The Man City bench also contains the returning Erling Haaland, who had missed the last two matches through injury.

Man City face a crucial match at the City Ground in their bid to secure a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Guardiola's side are likely to be four points behind leaders Arsenal heading into the match, with the Gunners leading North London rivals Tottenham in the early kick-off.

The away trip to Nottingham Forest is one of two games in hand for Man City.

Forest are also in need of the three points with the hosts currently one point above the relegation zone.
