A former Premier League one-season wonder is helping to rebuild a club in Spain.

The player in question was idolised by none other that Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Haaland saw the player as an inspiration when he was growing up and the pair swapped shirts in 2022.

He harbours hopes of a return to the English top flight in some capacity in the future but is currently working as a director of football in Spain.

The former striker once enjoyed a memorable season with a club who are no longer playing in the Premier League.

Michu scored 18 Premier League goals for Swansea in the 2012-13 season following his move from Rayo Vallecano.

He also scored in the final against Bradford as Swansea won the 2013 Carabao Cup. In addition, he made one appearance for Spain against Belarus.

However, Michu struggled with injuries during the following campaign and ended up joining Napoli on loan. He was released by Swansea in November 2015 after a financial settlement was reached.

After spells with Langreo and Real Oviedo, Michu retired in 2017 at the age of 31 due to injuries.

Following his retirement Michu became director of football at Langreo before later taking up a position as technical secretary of Real Oviedo.

In December 2019 Michu became director of football at Burgos and helped oversee the club's promotion to the Spanish second tier in 2021.

In 2022, Michu expressed his delight after Haaland had named him as his idol growing up.

Michu gave Haaland a Burgos shirt in 2020 and received a Borussia Dortmund jersey from the striker in return.

The Spaniard has spoken of his desire to eventually return to the Premier League.

As reported by Optus Sport, Michu said: 'I want to be back in the Premier League one day. I’m really happy at Burgos, I’m working in football so I'm very grateful for that.'
