Pep Guardiola has warned that Arsenal will surpass Manchester City in the long run if his side rest on their laurels.

He claimed there are three certainties for as long as he lives: waking up, going to sleep, and being pushed by Mikel Arteta's side.

His comments came ahead of a final-day spectacle, with City and Arsenal jostling for the Premier League crown against West Ham and Everton respectively.

The Treble winners are two points better off but have an inferior goal difference to the Gunners.

'For the future, Arsenal are giving the message, and we take it,' Guardiola told Sky Sports.

'I have few certain things in my life, like waking up in the morning and going to sleep at night. It's going to happen for the rest of my life.'

'The other certain? With the age they have, with the manager they have, with the way they're playing for the last two seasons, they will stay here for a long, long time. That's why we get the message.

'Whatever happens on Sunday, if you don't start to be ready to compete with them again, they will take our position.

'I know Mikel, I know the team, I know Arsenal as an institution.

'I know Mikel. He is a huge competitor. I think our chemistry when we were together, I felt it.

'Whatever happens or whatever the moment or position he is [in] with Arsenal, he will do it.'

It's high praise coming from Guardiola, whose side are seeking an unprecedented feat in English football - to win fourth consecutive league titles.

City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Huddersfield have all won three titles on the bounce at one point, but nobody has gone one better.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are seeking their first title since the 2003/04 season, when they went invincible under Arsene Wenger with 26 wins and 12 draws.

They got 90 points that season and if they win on Sunday, they would finish this campaign just one short of that historic total.
