Manchester United will look to sell Jadon Sancho this summer following face-to-face talks with the Old Trafford outcast in Germany.

Manager Erik ten Hag revealed that a delegation – believed to be chief transfer negotiator Matt Hargreaves and former football director John Murtough – has met with Sancho during his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.

Ten Hag said last week that Sancho’s improved form in Germany ‘shows he represents a high value for Manchester United’.

As well as helping to push up the player’s price if he is sold this summer, it’s understood that Dortmund’s progress to the brink of the Champions League final has also triggered significant bonuses in his loan deal.

Representatives from United were in Germany last Wednesday to see the 24-year-old give a man-of-the-match performance as Dortmund took a 1-0 advantage over Paris Saint-Germain in their semi-final ahead of Tuesday night's second leg in France.

‘We are close in that process,’ said Ten Hag, who hasn’t had any direct contact with Sancho.

‘We are visiting games not only (on Wednesday). I will not say all the games, but we have seen more games from Dortmund where Jadon was performing.

‘We had a visit with him. We had a talk with him during his stay there and we will keep going with this process. We will continually be in contact and communicate with him.’

Sancho was frozen out at United in September after effectively branding Ten Hag a liar over the reasons for his omission at Arsenal in a social media post, and then refusing to apologise.

He spent four months training and eating on his own at Carrington before returning to Dortmund on loan in January.

United will look to recoup as much as possible of the £73million fee paid to Dortmund in 2021 when they signed the former Manchester City player on five-year contract worth a £250,000-a-week.

Asked if he still wants an apology, Ten Hag replied: ‘There was a conflict and let’s first finish the season. So stay away from this issue now, it is not important.

‘He has the return of the semi-final, in the league it is not going that well for them, and we have four important games in the league and the FA Cup final. Then we will see.’

United face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday, looking to salvage the consolation of a Europa League place.

Bruno Fernandes is fighting to be fit for the game and Ten Hag played down comments from the United captain last week that he will assess his future at the club after the European Championships this summer.

‘That was taken out of context,’ said Ten Hag, adding that Fernandes will ‘definitely’ see out a contract that runs until June 2026. ‘I know he is Manchester United and he is very happy to be here.’

On the prospect of Fernandes missing his first match through injury in four years, Ten Hag said: ‘Bruno is a real fighter. He is always available, never misses a game and always play in a good level.

‘Last year for instance when we played Brighton in the (FA Cup) semi-final, he played with an ankle that was so thick, it was unbelievable.’
