Vinicius Junior insists he is remaining 'very calm' about his Real Madrid contract amid talk of a new deal following his impressive form... as the Brazilian claims money WON'T be an issue if new offer arrives

  • Vinicius Junior has scored nine goals so far for Real Madrid this season
  • Talk of a new contract at the club has emerged as a result of his impressive form
  • The 21-year-old's current deal - which he signed aged 16 - runs through to 2025
  • The Brazil international is reportedly among the lowest-paid players in squad

Vinicius Junior has stated his desire to stay at Real Madrid 'for a long time' following his impressive start to the season, but insists the club are yet to open talks regarding a new contract.

The 21-year-old has scored nine goals - including a brace in the weekend's win at Elche - and laid on five assists in all competitions so far this term for Carlo Ancelotti's men.

His current contract - the one he signed aged 16 when his £39.4million (€46m) move from Flamengo to the Santiago Bernabeu was confirmed in May 2017 - runs through until 2025.

MARCA reported earlier this week the club realise they will have to begin the process of extending the Brazilian's deal sooner rather than later, with Vinicius reportedly one of the five lowest-paid players in the squad.

Goal reported in September Los Blancos had still to open talks with Vinicius, and the player now appears to have confirmed that news, but insists he is 'very calm' about the situation and that money will prove no barrier.

'They have not told me anything, but I am very calm because there is still a lot of time left,' he told TNT Brazil via MARCA.

'Of course I want to renew, of course I want to stay here for a long time, but I am very calm with that, all at the right time.

'The contract I have is still the one from when I was 16. It doesn't matter when I'm going to renew, how much I'm going to earn or how much I earn, what matters is the satisfaction of being in the best team in the world.'

Overall, Vinicius - who became the second most expensive Brazilian player behind Neymar at the time of his move from Flamengo - has scored 24 goals in 132 Real Madrid appearances since the 2018-19 season.

The forward however has been left out of the Selecao's senior squad for their World Cup qualifying matches against Colombia and arch rivals Argentina later this month.

Brazil boss Tite named a 23-man squad last Friday that saw Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho handed a call-up for the first time since October last year, while Ajax and Leeds stars Antony and Raphinha were also preferred to Vinicius.

The 21-year-old's immediate focus however will be on attempting to put Shakhtar Donetsk to the sword in the Champions League once more on Wednesday night following his double against them in a 5-0 win in Kiev last month.

The Ukrainian outfit travel to the Spanish capital in their Group D clash, with LaLiga champions Real sat second in the group behind Moldovan minnows Sheriff on head-to-head after their shock win at the Bernabeu on matchday two.
