James Rodriguez has stated that he wants Liverpool to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The attacking midfielder played for Los Blancos between 2014 and 2020, but he said that he will instead be supporting Liverpool for his friend Luis Diaz.

"Liverpool are playing very well and they have 'Luchito' Diaz, and I want Lucho to win the trophy," James said in a Twitch interview with Jaime Echenique.

However, he acknowledged the enormous challenge that Real Madrid will pose.

"Real Madrid are so strong in these types of games," James admitted.

"We have seen it in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals."

The 30-year-old went on to state his affection for Real Madrid and his former teammates.

"It will be tough," James noted.

"I have former teammates at Real Madrid, I love the club a lot, they have so much history in these types of games, but Liverpool can play a great match."
