Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic is being talked about in the same breath as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland as his value soars. The 21-year-old Serbian is the top scorer in Serie A this season, jointly with Lazio's Ciro Immobile, with 10 goals in 13 games and is being talked up as one of the top young forwards in Europe.
The Viola's no.9 is already becoming an idol in Florence and the rest of the continent is beginning to take notice of his exploits after rave reviews in Italy.
Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport have even compared the Serbian to a former Fiorentina striker, a certain Gabriel Batistuta, for his goalscoring talent and impressive physique.
Vlahovic is already well on his way to making his own history, however, as he is on 27 goals for Fiorentina this calendar year, which means he just needs one more to beat Kurt Hamrin's club record.
Only Lewandowski is ahead of him
In fact, in the major European leagues, only Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has more league goals (38) than Vlahovic in 2021.
The Serbian is already ahead of Haaland (26), Karim Benzema (25) and Lionel Messi (24).
What's more, Vlahovic's strikes are pure gold for Fiorentina as they have been worth nine points in Serie A this campaign, more than any other player for any other team.
It's easy to see, therefore, why huge figures are being talked about in terms of his potential value.
"Given his age, I'd say he's worth more than 100 million euros," said former Juventus player Emanuele Giaccherini.
Other former players heaping praise on him include Christian Vieri, Nicola Ventola and Riccardo Montolivo.
Vlahovic's contract situation
While Vlahovic continues to be a success on the pitch for the Viola, the problem for the Italian club is that his contract will expire at the end of next season and he is showing no willingness to renew.
That could mean that Fiorentina will feel obliged to try to sell him this coming summer at a reduced fee, which Tuttosport reckon could be between 60m to 70m euros.
As for possible destinations, he has, unsurprisingly, a long list of admirers across Europe.
Atletico Madrid tested the waters last summer and, although they eventually signed Matheus Cunha, Vlahovic remains on their radar. AC Milan and Juventus are also, understandably, well aware of his talents and keeping tabs.
Then there are a host of English Premier League clubs believed to be interested, including Arsenal, Spurs, Manchester City and Newcastle.
