Inter fall further behind in Serie A title race after Fiorentina draw

Inter failed to win for the seventh time in their last nine Serie A games on Saturday, this time drawing against Fiorentina at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, losing yet more ground in the title race.

AC Milan, who face Cagliari in Sardinia later on Saturday night, can now put a six-point gap between the two Milanese sides with a win, though the champions will still have a game in hand. Napoli's win over Udinese earlier in the day saw them go level with the Rossoneri on 63 points.

It could have been worse for the Nerazzurri having fallen behind to Lucas Torreira's strike early in the second half. The Uruguayan pounced after Nicolo Barella had lost focus to let him slip free moments after the Italian had himself missed a huge chance at the other end. Denzel Dumfries did level though with a bullet header shortly after.

Lautaro Martinez had been awarded a penalty before VAR intervened and overturned the decision, and from there Inter's frustration only grew.

Simone Inzaghi threw on Felipe Caicedo before stoppage time in desperate search of a goal, with the forward having been a super-sub under the coach at Lazio. But the Nerazzurri were unable to carve out many chances and were wasteful when they did.

Inter have now, after an eight-game winning run, won just two of their last nine in Serie A.
