Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp expects the club to spend big in the January transfer window following the arrival of Antonio Conte.

Spurs moved quickly after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo following the dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester United with chairman Daniel Levy and director of football Fabio Paratici holding talks with Conte and offering him an 18-month deal with an option to extend.

The former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan boss was the club's top target to replace Jose Mourinho at the start of the season but he turned them down, amid reports he feared he would not be backed in the transfer market.

And Redknapp believes Conte would have received assurances from Levy before taking the job.

He told talkSPORT: 'I can see them spending.

'I don't think he'd have come if he couldn't improve the team. That was probably one of the provisions of him coming.'

Backed by Spurs' billionaire owner Joe Lewis, Levy has kept a tight grip on the club's finances since 2001.

Redknapp added: 'Joe Lewis, people don't realise how wealthy the owner of Tottenham is, he's up there with one of the richest men in the world.

'They can afford to bring players in and I think they will do that for sure.'

Tottenham did not make any big signings in the summer but did manage to keep hold if Harry Kane.

Their season has not gone to plan at all and they currently sit ninth after five defeats in their first 10 games.
