Wolves are hopeful Julen Lopetegui will formally take over as their new manager on November 13 as they seek to finalise the details of his appointment.

After twice being turned down by the Spaniard, first in 2016 and again last month, Wolves are increasingly confident of making it third time lucky after reviving talks.

Though they could announce the capture of Lopetegui before then, Sportsmail understands he is not due in England until the day after Wolves’ home game against Arsenal – their final fixture before the Premier League pauses for the World Cup.

Wolves moved again for Lopetegui after Queens Park Rangers manager Michael Beale had a last-minute change of heart, after initially being poised to move to Molineux.

After Beale said no, Wolves chairman Jeff Shi announced that the club would stick with caretaker-boss Steve Davis for the rest of 2023. But with Wolves 19th in the table, Shi has scrapped those plans.

Lopetegui, 56, led Sevilla to the Europa League in 2020, defeating Wolves in the last eight. He has a close relationship with super agent Jorge Mendes, whose Gestifute group have strong links with Wolves.

Lopetegui was initially offered the chance to succeed Bruno Lage – dismissed on October 2 – after being sacked by Sevilla last month, but opted to turn it down at the time, largely for family reasons.

Under these plans, Davis would remain at the helm for the league games against Brighton and Arsenal, either side of the Carabao Cup meeting with Leeds United.

Lopetegui worked with Wolves skipper Ruben Neves at FC Porto and the pair have retained a good rapport.
