'We had no complaints with the result': Graham Potter admits Arsenal are some way ahead of his Chelsea team and 'deserved to win' after Gabriel's goal settled London derby at Stamford Bridge

Graham Potter admitted Arsenal are some way ahead of his Chelsea team as Gabriel scored the winner in Sunday's London derby at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners defender scored the decisive goal from a corner on 63 minutes to sent them back to the top of the Premier League table above Manchester City.

Chelsea threatened only fleetingly and Potter had no complaints with the outcome, admitting his side lacked a cutting edge when they did get into promising positions.

He told BT Sport: 'I think we played against a team in a really good moment a confident team, you can see the points they have, so credit to them.

'The boys gave everything, it was a huffing and puffing performance from us without the real quality we needed.

'We got in a few situations, four-versus-four, four-versus-three in the box but we missed that last little bit.

'Overall I think Arsenal deserved to win. Whilst the goal was disappointing over the course of the game we had no complaints with the result.'

Asked to assess the differences between the two teams, Potter acknowledged that Mikel Arteta's work at Arsenal over the past couple of years had them in a far stronger position than Chelsea.

He added: 'I wouldn't say urgency, you have to look at where the two teams are at. Arsenal are in a good moment, a good confidence, have been working together for a long time with a good understanding of what they're trying to do - and we're probably in a different phase.

'The effort was there but we were beaten by the better team today.

'The overall is an indication of where we have to work, where the process is, what we have to do to do better. That's where we know we're at.

'We didn't function as fluently as we would like. There is always two teams on the pitch and you have to understand where they're at.

'They have come in a good moment, with some good players, a good structure. Mikel has done a good job there.

'You can see the points they have in the Premier League, they're in a good place, we're slightly different and you can have those moments in a season.

'What's important is we understand where we're at, we understand where the work is, what we need to do better and execute it.'
