Ally McCoist has heaped praise on England's Bukayo Saka - saying the winger already 'looks like a starter' for the Three Lions.

The Arsenal wideman, 21, is the joint second-top scorer at the Qatar World Cup after netting his third goal in the 3-0 last-16 win against Senegal.

And McCoist told

that Saka and other English young players will only get better, in a hugely positive sign for Gareth Southgate's side.

He said: 'I've watched him close-up this tournament. Boy, he's been excellent. He really, really has. Great maturity, blossomed in that squad and team and actually, now he's looking like a starter for Gareth.

'Gareth's looking at his team, he probably thinks right away "in a normal game, I've got eight or nine starters". Saka's in there. He's got a settled back four at the moment, the goalie you'd be happy with.

'He's got the opportunity to change in wider positions and maybe a midfielder here or there, but Saka's been excellent. He really has been, and he's only going to get better. This England squad and these boys are probably nowhere near their peak.'

The 23-cap international also netted a double in England's opening game of the tournament, a 6-2 thrashing of Iran, before being rested as Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford were handed starts in attack against Wales, either side of Harry Kane.

But despite Rashford's double, Saka was brought back into the starting line-up against the African side and is expected to start in their quarter-final knockout tie against France on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, ahead of the last eight clash, Saka played down comparisons to Les Bleus superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Asked if he is England's own Mbappe, he said: 'Thanks, but no. I think there's only one Mbappe - and only one me.

'I just want to help my team. There's a lot of young players doing well, including in our team. The priority is to win the tournament, not player of the tournament, or young player of the tournament.'
