Arsenal should be PROUD of Chelsea reaching the Champions League semi-finals, insists Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall, who congratulates the FA and WSL on having two English clubs in the last four of the tournament

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall says Arsenal and Chelsea’s progression to the women’s Champions League semi-final should be a source of pride for the women’s game in England.

The Gunners were the first WSL side to make it through to the last four, overturning a 1-0 first leg deficit to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 on aggregate at the Emirates on Wednesday, before Chelsea’s penalty shootout win over Lyon on Thursday night

The Arsenal boss believes the success is rewards for years of hard work behind the scenes.

‘Congratulations to Chelsea,’ Eidevall said.

‘It’s a huge achievement for English women’s club football to have two teams in the top four in Europe.

'This is not only something Arsenal and Chelsea should be proud of but also the WSL and FA because there’s a lot who have worked extremely hard over many years to help things like this become a reality.’

Arsenal men’s boss Mikel Arteta was one of 21,307 in attendance for Wednesday’s victory and Eidevall revealed that sporting director Edu had been in contact to congratulate his side on their win.

‘You feel you’re working in one club and that’s the environment that has been created here,’ said Eidevall.

‘We’re all very thankful to be in that and to be inspired by all the great coaches and players inside these buildings.’
