Patrick Vieira has revealed that one former Arsenal player he believes could have been even better than him.

Vieira is renowned as one of the greatest players in Arsenal's history having been the captain of the Invincibles team as well as winning two further league titles and four FA Cups.

However, Vieira says that one ex-Gunner reminds him of himself and could have hit even greater heights were it not for unfortunate circumstances.

Vieira made over 400 appearances for Arsenal and is now the manager of Strasbourg.

Speaking on the latest episode of the podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Vieira was asked by Gary Neville which player he has managed that reminds him most of himself.

'None of them. I used to like Diaby at Arsenal,' Vieira said.

'I think he was going to be even a better player because I think he was more complete, he was more technical.

'I think he was more offensive, he has more quality in the last 30 yards.

'The injuries stopped his progression but he was a really good one.'

Diaby joined Arsenal in January 2006, with Vieira having left the club the previous summer.

During his time with the Gunners, Diaby made 180 appearances and scored 19 goals.

A severe ankle fracture that Diaby suffered in 2006 as a result of a challenge from Sunderland's Dan Smith was the beginning of the midfielder's injury nightmare.

It was of a series of injuries suffered by Diaby, leaving the impression he could have achieved more in the game had he been fully fit.

Diaby remained at Arsenal until 2015 and joined Marseille, who he represented until 2017 before announcing his retirement in 2019.
