  • Fans were surprised to see Aaron Ramsdale 'commentating' on England's Test
  • The goalkeeper opened up on England's Euro 2024 campaign as well as cricket
  • England were playing their second Test against West Indies at Trent Bridge

Viewers did a double take when they heard from Aaron Ramsdale in the commentary box during England's Test match against West Indies on Thursday afternoon.

The England and Arsenal goalkeeper is a cricket fan but it was still a shock to see him briefly on co-commentary duties just four days after the Euro 2024 final.

Ramsdale did not feature at the tournament as England reached the final and lost to Spain 2-1, but he was asked about the Three Lions' camp.

'What a strange combo, Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton and Aaron Ramsdale,' wrote one user on X, unleashing a laughing emoji.

'Aaron Ramsdale on Sky commentary for the Test match? I AM ALIVE,' said another, adding: 'I can listen to him all day.'

Asked about his time in Germany, Ramsdale said: 'It was so much fun. We had a great team spirit on and off the pitch.

'It was just unfortunate on that final day that we couldn't get it working but we loved it.'

The 26-year-old also shared what Ben Stokes told the England squad ahead of the tournament.

'He spoke honestly about his whole career, his whole pathway. It was great to hear his ups and downs of his whole life.

'Most importantly, for cricketers as well as footballers, it's about that next action. You might make a mistake or someone might lose a header on a set-piece but it's about that next action, next ball.

'If you miss one on the outside edge it's about resetting and trying to find the middle of the bat and that's certainly what we tried to do.'

Ramsdale also revealed that he thinks he is a 'lucky charm' for Ollie Pope.

'It's the second time I've come to watch him. He got a double 100 against Ireland and I think a 121 today so I'm going to have to keep coming for Ollie!'

Not everyone was enamoured with Ramsdale being on the mic.

'Aaron Ramsdale on commentary, are Sky a serious cricket broadcaster anymore?' wrote one user on X.

Others were delighted to see him: 'Ramsdale at the Sky Sports dugout. Bazball lover. Classenal for a reason.'
