Cole Palmer not making PFA Premier League Team of the Year leaves fans FUMING as they slam 'ridiculous' voting

Cole Palmer's shocking snub from PFA Premier League Team of the Year has left fans baffled at his 'ridiculous' omission.

The Chelsea star not picking up enough votes from his peers was even more perplexing given how he picked up the PFA Men's Young Player of the Year gong on the same night.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a stunning debut season at Stamford Bridge after moving from Man City for £42.5million, netting 22 times and laying on 11 goals for team-mates despite the Blues mixed campaign.

It saw Palmer top the charts for contributing the most goals and assists during the 2023-24 campaign, pipping Ollie Watkins and Erling Haaland who both contributed 32 goal contributions last season.

Both Haaland and Watkins made the cut for the XI - which is voted for by the players themselves - for both enjoying standout seasons but Palmer being cut from the team has left some fans up in arms.

The Chelsea forward netted 22 goals and provided 11 assists in the Premier League last season

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, one fan claimed that an Arsenal star that did make the PFA's Premier League Team of the Year should not have been there in place of Palmer.

Foden one of four City stars in PFA Premier League XI... but Arsenal hero and Palmer are SNUBBED

They wrote: 'No Cole Palmer in team of the year? Are you freaking joking? Trying to compensate Odegaard or what? Ridiculous!'

Others agreed with the decision, with one user pointing out how Palmer contributed the most goals and assists over the campaign.

'So the person with the most G/A didn’t get in? What?' they wrote.

Others simply asked 'Where's Palmer?' while another X user couldn't hide their disbelief at the omission.

'@PFA What on earth is that? No Palmer in the TOTY?' they wrote.

Palmer's England team-mate Phil Foden was named in the XI on the night where he was also named as the PFA Men's Player of the Year.

Fans hit out at the decision to not to include Palmer in the PFA's Team of the Year

Foden was joined by Haaland and two other Man City team-mates.

Influential midfield Rodri was named in the team for the second time, while right back and Man City captain Kyle Walker makes his fourth appearance having impressed in 47 matches in all competitions last season.

Despite finishing as Premier League runners-up, Arsenal have more players - five - included in the Team of Year than champions Man City.

Their strong defensive record has been noted, with the Gunners having conceded just 29 goals last season.

This has led to the inclusion of goalkeeper David Raya, who won the golden glove after keeping 16 clean sheets in the league.

Champions Man City have four players in the team, while five come from runners-up Arsenal

Raya has also succeeded team-mate Aaron Ramsdale, who was named as the goalkeeper in last year’s team.

Arsenal’s centre back partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have been included. Saliba, who played every minute of the Premier League season, features for the second successive year.

The defence is completed by Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, with his fourth selection seeing him feature alongside Walker, Saliba and Gabriel in the back-line.

Declan Rice and Odegaard complete the midfield.

Last season was a breakout campaign for Palmer after he made the decision to leave Manchester City, where he progressed from the academy ranks through to the first team.

After rarely getting the chance to show his quality in Manchester, Palmer's stock rose exponentially within just months of the move to Stamford Bridge as he shone in an inconsistent Chelsea side.

He carried the Blues, then managed by Mauricio Pochettino, to a European spot, notching up 11 Premier League assists alongside his impressive haul of goals.

Not initially signed as a goalscorer, Palmer became Chelsea's main source for finding the back of the net as other forwards faltered.

He netted two Premier League hat-tricks in three matches with the first coming against his former club's bitter rivals, Manchester United.

The forward's displays earned him a call-up to England's Euro 2024 squad, and once again he showed his quality by scoring a long-range effort in the final against Spain, which the Three Lions ended up losing.
