Youri Djorkaeff has revealed that Barcelona wanted to create a super-team consisting of him, Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario, and Zinedine Zidane.

Djorkaeff had an illustrious career as he played in France, England, Germany, and Italy, while also being part of the France team that lifted the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

"Barcelona even hoped to team me up with Ronaldo and Zidane," Djorkaeff revealed in an interview with L'Equipe.

"However, [Johan] Cruyff was honest. He called me to tell me that I might not be able to make it to the Barcelona bench anymore.

"That's what happened. Then I went to Inter. [Joan] Gaspart told my father that you couldn't turn down Barcelona unless you were a madman or a god.... I'll let you imagine what my father replied."

Djorkaeff was in talks to sign for Barcelona, but it never materialised. And the Frenchman has no regrets about it.

"I have no regrets. But I could have signed for Barcelona after PSG," he added.

"My father and my brother, who represented me, saw Gaspart several times. And my dream was to work with Cruyff. They both wanted to take me."

Ronaldo's class

The 54-year-old was also asked about the best player he has ever played with.

"Ronaldo! I haven't seen that joy of playing with anyone else," Djorkaeff said.

"That's what made him stand out even more than his talent. He was a goalscorer, but he wasn't obsessed with scoring.

"He never got frustrated if it was someone else who scored. Ronaldo was an extraordinary team-mate on and off the pitch.

"Craziest player? I loved Ivan Campo at Bolton. He wasn't that crazy, but he had a nice touch of madness. A great guy to be around - a real character."
