Bernardo Silva was one of the players Barcelona targeted during the summer transfer window, but in the end, the problems faced by the club in registering new signings made it impossible to bring him in.
Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano made it clear before the close of the window that he didn't want to lose the Portuguese star. When asked if Silva would remain he said: "Of course."
Silva's father opens up
Silva's father, Paulo Silva, has shed light on why his son remained at Manchester City.
"There were many conversations, but a concrete offer wasn't made in time," he told Stats Perform.
"When it finally came, it was no longer the right time for all parties involved.
"Things have to happen rationally and it wasn't an ideal scenario for Bernardo.
"He is a mature player, he is 28 years old. Things have to be done rationally, not emotionally."
The midfielder's two goals and two assists for Manchester City so far this season have helped Pep Guardiola's side move into second place in the Premier League.
