The midfielder is also an option to replace Busquets but Barça are not convinced

Barcelona are making slow progress on their exit operation. The aim is to transfer players, but also to save wages in order to be able to make progress on signings. One of those who could leave is midfielder Nico Gonzalez, who is negotiating a loan move to Real Betis with an option to buy. The player will not have minutes as part of the new Blaugrana project and is keen to join the Verdiblanco and play in Europe next season.

Nico has had an irregular season at Valencia. He has had physical problems and the social and sporting instability of the club has not helped either. Despite all this, he is a player with a great reputation and the new Betis sporting director, Ramon Planes, knows him perfectly from his time at the Catalan club. Nico fits in with Betis' style and the player is open to leaving to guarantee himself minutes.

In principle, Barça intend to sign at least two midfielders after the departure of Busquets. Xavi wants a midfielder in front of the defence and there had been speculation about Nico playing there, but it seems that he is not a priority. Rúben Neves is practically signed and the other position could go to Gundogan despite Xavi prioritising other names. In any case, Nico was not going to enjoy a starring role and Betis could be the definitive destination to relaunch his career.

The player already has the offer from Betis on the table and the Seville-based hves already started talking to Barça. The Blaugrana prioritised a sale, but everything indicates that the operation will be a loan with an option to buy if there is an agreement between all parties.
