They tied the knot in a stunning Mediterranean Villa in Barcelona on Saturday.

But Scott Mills and Sam Vaughan very nearly didn't get their happy ending together after suffering a 'wobble' at the start of their romance.

The BBC Radio 2 host, 51, and producer, 35, who have been dating since 2017, once went six months without speaking after Sam 'put the brakes on'.

Speaking to The Times last year, the now married couple explained that it was Sam's mother who saved their relationship.

Scott recalled falling quickly for Sam, gushing: 'The more time we spent together, the more I could see we were right for each other. I just needed him to see that too.'

However, he explained: 'So when we had the conversation about taking it forward and he said “I’m not ready”, I was devastated.'

The radio DJ explained that the pair went their separate ways and he was left 'in bits' after not speaking for half a year.

Scott said: 'If it wasn’t going to happen, then I needed a clean break. Being friends with someone you’re in love with doesn’t work.

'We didn’t speak for six months. My mum came to stay because I was in bits, sitting on the sofa crying, eating ice cream.'

But luckily Sam's mother intervened and gave him the courage to go for it, with Scott recounting: 'Meanwhile Sam’s mum was dealing with him.

'When he sent me a text saying “I miss you”, his mum sat him down and said, “Don’t mess him around. Either go for it or leave him alone.” We moved in together three months before the first lockdown.'

While Sam explained how 'things moved fast' when he and Scott first got together, as he had just ended a three-year relationship and had only come out a few years earlier, at the age of 23.

He said: 'Scott and I hit it off straight away but I found London quite daunting and I didn’t have confidence in my own worth. I thought, “He can go out with anyone at all, why does he like me?”

He admitted: 'I had a bit of a wobble and put the brakes on. Not talking to Scott for six months made me realise I’d made a huge mistake. I missed his company so much.

'But that time apart also let me work out that Scott liked me for who I was and so I could accept myself too.'
