The father of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has provided an update on his condition via social media after being stabbed in a car park on Wednesday evening.

Mounir Nasraoui, 35, was rushed to hospital after being attacked in the Spanish town of Mataro, north of Barcelona.

He is believed to have gotten into an argument with people in the area while walking his dog, before a fight broke out and Nasraoui received multiple stab wounds, according to La Vanguardia.

Three people have since been arrested by the Spanish police, accused of attempted murder, and they have confimred a fourth has since been detained.

Yamal's father has now taken to social media app Instagram to share an update on his condition. 'Thank you all for your encouragement, I'm better now,' He posted. 'A big hug to everyone.'

Video footage emerged of an earlier confrontation between Nasraoui and members of the public on the same day before the father of the Barcelona wonderkid was sent away by police.

The three individuals who launched an attack on him later that night are believed to be the same people, or related to them in some way.

News has since come to light that Nasraoui has a history with the attackers far beyond Wednesday, according to Marca.

The report from the Spanish media outlet indicates that his past with the three individuals involved 'goes back a long way'.

Nasraoui remains in hospital in a stable condition as it is said that an investigation into the incident, which took place at 9.10pm last night, is still ongoing.

Yamal's father was his biggest supporter during the European Championship as the 17-year-old played a major role in Spain's run to the title.

The Barcelona winger won the Young Player of the Tournament award after scoring one goal and providing four assists during the Euros - including a fine pass to set up Nico Williams' opener against England in the final.

Nasraoui is a proud father and has previously stated that his superstar son could 'be greater than [Lionel] Messi'.

Mataro, in Rocafonda - where the stabbing took place - is still the neighbourhood in which Nasraoui resides. Yamal was raised in the area and still honours it with his '304' celebration - a reference to the postcode.

Yamal's father moved to Spain, from Morocco, as a nine-year-old. He met Sheila Ebana, the mother of the winger, with the pair later giving birth to their football prodigy son in 2007.
