Ronald de Boer has stressed that Barcelona president Joan Laporta's treatment of head coach Ronald Koeman has been anything but professional in the last few weeks.
The Dutchman believes that his compatriot did an excellent job at Barcelona last season and deserves another opportunity to prove his worth at the club in 2021/22.
"[Koeman] knew when he went [to Barcelona] that it was a difficult time," De Boer told MARCA.
"The departure of players like Luis Suarez affected the dressing room, especially [Lionel] Messi, but the team did well by winning the Copa del Rey. It was a shame, they were close [to winning the league title], but in the last games they couldn't fight for LaLiga.
"Some blamed him [and] said he was responsible, but Koeman made Barcelona believe, something that had been lost. He made them see that they could beat anyone, and Messi got back his figures. He has done a good job.
"I do not understand what is happening. Laporta is a great person, but it is strange to act like that.
"Telling a coach to wait 15 days with an open mind I think is unprofessional [and] arrogant. I think that Ronald doesn't deserve it.
"I don't know if he's going to continue, I think it's the only option there is. It's a weird situation, it's not the best way to do things. Let's hope he stays and continues to prove himself. He deserves it."
