Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is prepared to come out of retirement to answer an emergency call from Barcelona.

The Spanish side are searching for a new keeper as number one Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was ruled out for the season after rupturing his patella tendon during Sunday's La Liga victory over Villarreal.

Szczesny announced he was to quit the game in August after his contract with Juventus had been mutually terminated at the end of last season.

The 34-year old, who amassed 84 caps for Poland, had made 200 appearances for Juventus over seven years after joining from Arsenal for £12.5m.

Barcelona will meet Szczesny's representatives this week to see if they can find agreement. However, they will also need to examine the terms of his contract termination with Juventus before they can proceed.

Former Arsenal and Juventus star Wojciech Szczesny announces retirement

Szczesny announced his retirement this summer on August 27 at the age of 34, with the Pole explaining how his 'heart is no longer ready' for football.

The Pole would consider ending his retirement - which has lasted just four weeks so far - to move to the Nou Camp.

He has a strong relationship with Barcelona striker and fellow Polish star Robert Lewandowski, while he is well-known to Flick's staff following his experiences in European football.

Szczesny was last in action at Euro 2024 in the summer when he played two of Poland's three group games at the tournament.

Barcelona return to action on Wednesday when they take on Getafe in LaLiga, as Flick's side attempt to keep up their 100 per cent record.

Navas meanwhile is believed to be in a good shape after continuing to train with Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa over recent months, with Navas rejecting several offers from teams all over the world.
