The third time seems to be the charm for Istanbul. After the city was forced to give up the chance of hosting the Champions League final on two occasions because of the pandemic, the Ataturk Olympic Stadium finally looks set to host the final in 2023.
The city of Istanbul will be the epicentre of European football on June 10, 2023, but it will also play host to the Champions League draw and the prize-giving ceremony for the last edition of Europe's premiere club competition.
Ataturk Olympic Stadium capacity
The Ataturk Olympic Stadium has one of the largest seating capacities in the continent, capable of housing 75,000 spectators.
The Ataturk Olympic Stadium was built as part of Istanbul's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, and previously hosted the Champions League final between AC Milan and Liverpool on May 25, 2005.
The stadium has also been used by several Turkish teams. Istanbul Basaksehir played their home games in the stadium until 2014, before they moved to their current home stadium.
Galatasaray played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium during the 03-04 season because their stadium was under renovation. They also returned to the Olympic Stadium for the 2006/07 Champions League.
Other clubs to use the stadium are Sivasspor, Besiktas and Fatih Karagumruk who still currently play their home games at the ground.
