Manchester City striker Erling Haaland received the UEFA player of the year award in Monaco on Thursday after his first season with the English club, in which he won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup and the European Super Cup.
The 23-year-old ended his first season with Pep Guardiola's side with 12 goals in the Champions League, four more than his nearest challenger, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, and a record 36 in the Premier League.
The Norwegian international, who became the youngest player to score 35 goals in the Champions League, taking over from Karim Benzema for the award. Kevin De Bruyne and Leo Messi were also candidates for the award but Haaland beat them to it.
The winners of the UEFA Best of the Season awards are chosen by a jury of coaches and journalists, after an initial shortlisting by UEFA's technical study group, based on their performances.
