Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola have analysed the Champions League matchday four clash, which will see them face Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. The Catalan coach addressed several issues, such as the team's performance last season, the tight schedule and the preparation for the match. The Citizens will go into the game with two days' rest: they will not train on Tuesday because Guardiola has given the squad a day off.
The team is not training today: "We will train tomorrow morning. I have done it several times. Not many, but some. Sometimes I prefer it. The game against Bournemouth was very demanding and I prefer to train tomorrow morning."
Preguntan a Haaland si se ve al nivel de Messi y Cristiano: "Nadie puede acercarse a ellos"
Last season's performance: "Last season there were a lot of injuries, the squad was 50% available month after month. That was the cause. We will be ready, last season we didn't have players and it was very difficult."
Few days of rest: "In Germany, France, everyone who participates in the Champions League tries to play on Friday to have more days of rest and here it is the opposite. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't coach in England. I would say that we handle the intensity well. Playing one game a week is completely different to playing more than three. When you play three games a week, the only solution is how you adapt and face the situation."
"It's hard to find a world-class player who is incredibly humble and thinks about what's best for the team. He has that ability, that talent, that kindness. He signed a 10-year contract, and he's involved in a lot of things."
Facing Yan Couto, formerly of Manchester City: "I'm glad he's there; he came in very young and made an incredible impact with Girona in their best season ever. And then Dortmund are always looking for young talent, they invest in them and, when they make an impact, they sell them. I'm glad he's doing so well."
Haaland: "I shouldn't think I'm special just because I score goals"
After Guardiola's appearance, Erling Haaland, who will face his former team, Borussia Dortmund, spoke. The Santpedor coach said this week that the Norwegian striker is "at the level of Messi and Cristiano" because of the enormous influence he has on the game.
Comparison with Messi and Cristiano: "Absolutely not, not at all. No one can get close to those two, so no. I'm Norwegian and for me I shouldn't think I'm someone special just because I score goals. It's as simple as that. I'm just Erling and that's something that will never change."
Rayan Cherki and the comparison with De Bruyne: "He's a nice guy with incredible qualities, as we can all see. We have to help him to have a free mind as a number 10 so that he can pass the ball to me and the attacking players. He has a special ability that is difficult to explain, a bit like Kevin De Bruyne, who could pass the ball to someone from anywhere on the pitch. He's a special talent and we have to help him develop even more, because he can become really good."
