Palmeiras took home a prize of seven million dollars, a figure that is added to everything accumulated during the knockout phases.

Palmeiras earned $16.5 million for advancing through each qualifying stage and $1.8 million for the six group stage matches it won. Along with the amount received for reaching the final, the Brazilian team takes home a total of $18.35 million.

In the case of the champion, Flamengo, the prize money for winning the cup was $24 million. If that amount is added to what they were awarded for winning matches in the group stage and overcoming the knockout rounds, the Rio de Janeiro club received a total of $36,150,000.

Beyond the sporting aspect and the prestige of the tournament, the Copa Libertadores encourages South American teams to play in it because it represents an economic income that helps the different needs of the clubs, especially for signings.

How much does the Champions League champion get?

Conmebol does not want to be left behind the Champions League when it comes to the economic reward for the winner. For its next edition, the Champions League, whose final will be played on May 30 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, the prize rose to 25 million euros for the winner.

As for the team that loses the final, the amount allocated for the runner-up is 18.5 million euros. In this way, the Copa Libertadores seeks to match its prize money with that of the Champions League, both to reward the first place and the second.
