Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink slams 'poor' Timo Werner for 'continuing to miss big chances' as the Burton Albion boss claims the German 'needed to score at least two chances' in Chelsea's draw with Man United

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink slated Timo Werner's performance during Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

Chelsea went 1-0 down after an error from Jorginho handed Jadon Sancho the chance to open the scoring but the Italian redeemed himself as he levelled for the hosts from the spot.

Werner started ahead of Christian Pulisic in attack, with Thomas Tuchel making three changes from Tuesday's 4-0 thumping of Juventus, but was substituted off for Romelu Lukaku in the 82nd minute.

The German had chances to level the game with the clearest coming not long after United took the lead.

In the 57th minute, Werner had a great shooting opportunity in the penalty area but instead of going for goal, he hit the ball in the direction he was facing.

Following the game, Burton Albion boss Hasselbaink slammed the forward's performance, claiming he 'keeps missing big chances'.

'Poor. With the ball. Without the ball,' he told Sky Sports.

'Normally he’s really sharp with his runs at the end of the day you’re a number nine, you’re going to be judged on your opportunities and what you do with them.

'It was not good enough. He needs to score at least the two chances. One with his right he should take with his left and he scores and feels better.

'But he keeps on missing big chances. Big opportunities. He needs to put them away.'

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane agreed with Hasselbaink's judgement, urging Werner to 'at least force the keeper to make a save'.

'Some of his chances are not even hitting the target, at least make the keeper make a save,' Keane said.
