Trevoh Chalobah's planned move to Bayern Munich has fallen apart after the German transfer window closed at 5pm.
Thomas Tuchel's side had been looking at a loan move for the Chelsea defender, but will be unable to complete the move.
The Bayern boss is believed to be a big fan of the 24-year-old after giving him his debut during his spell at Stamford Bridge.
Despite making 33 appearances in all competitions last summer, Chalobah has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
A hamstring injury curtailed Chalobah's pre-season preparations while Mauricio Pochettino has overseen an influx of new signings after been named the club's new boss in May.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is believed to be keen on the defender after giving him his Blues debut
The defender is keen for a move away from his boyhood club, and Chelsea are equally eager to complete the deal as long as their valuation is met.
Nottingham Forest remain interested and have submitted a £25 million bid for Chalobah.
Though not quite as prolific as they were following their promotion campaign, Steve Cooper's side have welcomed a number of new arrivals this summer including Anthony Elanga, Matt Turner and Chris Wood.
They also secured Callum Hudson-Odoi on Friday, with the former Chelsea winger penning a three-year deal.
But a latest bid could see the FA Cup winner join the City Ground side on deadline day.
An established defender such as Chalobah would be a welcome addition to a Forest side who were beaten 3-2 in their last game against Man United despite going 2-0 up within five minutes.
