New Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has addressed the Blues fans for the first time since his arrival in west London.

Maresca, 44, was revealed as the new Chelsea boss last month on a five-year contract, which began on July 1.

The Italian has already made four signings, raiding his former club Leicester City by acquiring midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for a deal worth £30m, on top of bringing in Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Tosin Adarabioyo.

After an exciting start to the transfer window, Chelsea fans have been eagerly awaiting to hear from Maresca and finally, on his eighth day in the role, he shared a simple message to the fans.

‘Just trust the process, trust the idea, be behind the team,' Maresca told Chelsea's media team.

The Italian boss has called for the belief of Chelsea supporters in the project he is now leading

He added: 'For sure we are going to enjoy the journey. Like at every club, for every manager, it will not be easy because nothing is easy. But for sure we are going to enjoy our journey.’

Why Chelsea believe Enzo Maresca can be their new Special One after confirming his appointment

Blues supporters have endured a tumultuous two years after witnessing, 12th and sixth-placed finishes, with three permanent bosses in that time, as well as a brief spells under Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard.

But with Maresca now taking the reins, he wants to build a strong bond with those who follow the west London side.

‘In this moment, when you join a club you try to analyse what the club and team needs to improve and do the right things,' said Maresca.

'For me, it’s clear we need to create as soon as possible the right mentality and culture, a culture that the fans can be proud of. This is very important.

‘We are going to try to be an aggressive team on the ball and off the ball and we need to create this connection between the fans and the club, especially at home.

'When you have your own fans behind the team pushing, it’s like playing with 12 players and this is what we have to create here.’

A club such as Chelsea crave trophies, something they have lacked since Todd Boehly's acquisition of the club in 2002.

They came close to silverware last season under Mauricio Pochettino, but came up short in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool in February.

Maresca wants to challenge for trophies after winning the Championship as Leicester boss

Maresca has acknowledged the winning mentality at the club and vowed that his squad will challenge at the very top.

The Italian professed: ‘It’s the main point [winning trophies] because when you join a club like Chelsea, you know that it’s a club that has to win.

'So for us, we are going to try our best to be there, to fight and compete with the clubs that in this moment are winning and fighting to win titles.’
