The media storm around Cristiano Ronaldo and his possible exit from Manchester United appears to know no bounds this summer.

One of the teams that were linked with a move for the Portuguese forward was Bayern Munich but they, along with Premier League side Chelsea, have since distanced themselves from the deal.

Now, Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has admitted to Bild that the German club evaluated the option of signing the Portuguese star.

"We have discussed the issue. Otherwise, we would not be doing our job properly," said Kahn, who expressed his admiration for the striker.

"Personally I think Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players on the planet."

But it seems that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner did not quite fit in with the Bundesliga champions' lifestyle.

"We came to the conclusion that, despite all the appreciation we all have for him, he would not have fitted in with our philosophy in the current situation."

So the future of CR7, who is 37 years old and earns a salary of 29 million euros a year, remains open.

The former Real Madrid star returned to the United training ground this week where he held talks with coach Erik ten Hag and the club to try and better understand the current situation. He is likely to still be playing for the Red Devils next season but he has missed most of pre-season.
