Leeds have opened talks to sign Bamba Dieng from Marseille.

The 22-year-old has been discussing a move to Fulham this week but Leeds have stepped in after their move for Cody Gakpo was blocked by PSV Eindhoven.

Dieng has been a target for Nottingham Forest and Newcastle in recent months too.

Fulham are signing Willian today but after missing out on Justin Kluivert from Roma want to add another winger and are exploring a move for Leeds' Dan James who could be allowed to leave if Dieng arrives.

Dieng, a 22-year-old Senegal international, is rated as one of most exciting prospects in European football.

He scored seven Ligue 1 goals last season but fell out of favour under Jorge Sampaoli towards the end of the campaign.

Marseille are understood to have been looking to move Dieng - who has yet to figure this season - on this summer to streamline their attacking options.

Reports in France on Wednesday claimed Dieng was closing in on a transfer to Lorient with a £6.9million (€8m) fee discussed, although the latter were said to be more keen on a loan with an option to buy.

Dieng moved to Marseille from Diambars in Senegal two years ago and scored on his first-team debut in February 2021 in a Coupe de France win against Auxerre.

He made his senior international bow eight months later and scored a penalty in the shootout to help Senegal beat Egypt in the final of the most recent Africa Cup of Nations.

Jesse Marsch has turned his attention to Dieng after seeing a move for Gakpo collapse.

PSV have decided to keep hold of Gakpo this summer and they are determined to get him to sign a lucrative new contract at the club.

Wolves reportedly rejected a £17m bid from Leeds for striker Hwang Hee-chan.

Gakpo was expecting to board a flight to Leeds-Bradford airport on Thursday morning with six relatives and Leeds director Victor Orta.

Orta had been seen in Holland attempting to thrash out a deal but things look to have stalled and Elfrink details a 'special twist' saw all flight details deleted with the move reportedly off.

Meanwhile, Wolves reportedly rejected a £17m bid from Leeds for striker Hwang Hee-chan.

Wolves were reportedly not happy with the payment structure of the deal and now want to keep the South Korean international.
