The possibly of seeing David Beckham as the owner of Manchester United isn't as far fetched as you might think. The Glazer family has put the Old Trafford club up for sale and the former footballer is open to negotiating a price for the club.
According to reports in the English press, Beckham has said he is open to discussions with any potential buyers of Manchester United. While the ex-footballer cannot afford to buy one of the Premier League's giants on his own, he could lead an investment group to acquire the club.
The Times reports that Beckham would like to return to the club in a boardroom capacity and that Beckham's sentimental relationship with United combined with the affection the fans still have for him could make the Glazers open to the possibility.
Several investors have already contacted Beckham in the past.
The Times also reports that several investors have approached Beckham in the past, but no further action ever came to fruition. According to the report, the former England captain is keen on putting together a concrete bid this time now that the Glazers have officially stated that the club is for sale.
The Glazer family, who have faced significant opposition during their tenure, announced on Tuesday that they would be willing to sell the club after 17 years as United's owners.
In their statement, the current owners of the Old Trafford team said they would consider all options, including "new investment in the club, a sale or other transactions".
