The Premier League side are exploring terminating his contract at Old Trafford
The fallout from Manchester United and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo's interview with Piers Morgan continues.
After saying that he feels betrayed by United, that he does not respect the manager Erik ten Hag and that the team has been stagnant for several years after Sir Alex Ferguson's departure, among other things, the English club has not stood idly by and is preparing to take legal action against the player.
“Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview. We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion,” the Premier League side said in a statement.
According to The Sun, the club has already started the legal process to terminate the player's contract without paying him a single penny of the £16 million he would earn until his contract expires in June. The Portuguese forward earns around 500,000 pounds a week.
Earlier on Friday, the journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that United are preparing to instruct Ronaldo not to return to Carrington after the World Cup. The relationship is increasingly tense and the issue seems far from being resolved.
