Brentford striker Ivan Toney has pleaded guilty to more than 200 betting-related charges and faces a ban of up to six months, according to English media reports.

The England player was accused of breaking FA betting rules 262 times between February 2017 and January 2021.

Football players, as well as coaches, club employees, agents, managers and any person with inside information about the game, are prohibited from placing bets, either directly or indirectly.

Toney is alleged to have broken FA regulations during the years he played for Scunthorpe, Wigan Athletic, Peterborough and Brentford. An independent commission will decide the punishment for Toney, who could face up to six months of suspension if it is proven he bet on his teams' matches.

It should be recalled that Kieran Trippier was given a 10-match ban in 2020. He missed, at the time, 13 games for Atletico Madrid.

Toney, 26, has scored 15 goals in 23 appearances for Brentford this season. 14 of those goals have come in the Premier League, where he is the third-highest scorer behind Harry Kane (18) and Erling Haaland (27).
